House in Bellingen, Australia

Proposed renovation and extension to an existing farm house, a new shed and tourist accommodation in Bellingen, NSW, Australia.

For many years our client wanted to exchange his hectic urban city life with a more quiet and grounded lifestyle in the country and looked for a rural property outside of Sydney. A year ago he found a perfect large plot of land and house among the rolling hills of Bellingen, overlooking a small creek with beautiful views to the distant mountains.

Currently a charming architects designed 1970’s holiday house sits on top of the ridge. It contains an open living-dinning area, one bedroom and bathroom with a large colonial style veranda wrapping around the entire building. A separate one-bedroom extension was built in the 1980s.

As our client wants to develop the land into an active farm, breeding horses and cattle as well as planting an orchard and a large vegetable garden, the current holiday house is not sufficient enough to support these additional functions and there is no clear division between the house and the day to day activities of running a farm.

Voss Architects have been invited by the client to develop the first planning and design strategies for the property, the renovation of the existing house, the proposed extension as well as the new utility building and separate tourist accommodation. We are currently in the concept design phase and are aiming to apply for development consent in the middle of 2015.

More to come soon.
